Jim Clash

Forbes Journalist, adventurer and Explorers Club Director

Jim Clash has given talks literally at both ends of the Earth – the Amundsen-Scott Station on the South Pole and a nuclear icebreaker at the North Pole. The seasoned Forbes adventure and business journalist speaks on motivation and risk assessment through his own exotic experiences.

Clash is a long-time Fellow and Director at The Explorers Club. His adventures include a MiG-25 ride at Mach 2.6 to the edge of space; driving formula (Indy) race cars above 200 mph (and a Bugatti Veyron at 253 mph); climbing the Matterhorn and virgin peaks in Greenland and Antarctica; two visits to the North Pole (one included a swim without a wet suit); skiing to the South Pole; weightlessness training in an IL-76 over Russia; bull fighting with the PBR; bobsledding with the U.S. Olympic team; taking a bullet point-blank for story on ballistics clothing; diffusing live WWII bombs with Berlin ordnance squads. (Last year, Clash's experiences included centrifuge training and high G-force flights with the Breitling Jet Team to prepare for his Virgin Galactic space ride.)

Clash has interviewed the late Neil Armstrong, Reinhold Messner, Chuck Yeager, Sir Roger Bannister, Buzz Aldrin, John Glenn, Elon Musk and Sir Edmund Hillary, among many other explorers. He started his journalism career at Forbes in 1993 covering mutual funds, then founded his "Adventurer" column and TV series to tell readers not only how to make money but where to spend it.

His book "Forbes To the Limits" compares risk-taking in business and adventure and has received critical acclaim. Jim has an MBA from Columbia University and a BA from the University of Maryland.
